Cyprus signed a 5G Memorandum

Cyprus and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Science and Technology Cooperation.

The memorandum was signed on October 20 in Nicosia between the Deputy Ministry for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos and the US Undersecretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment Keith Krach.

The talks between the two officials focused on 5G security, the Blue Dot network, and shared economic and national security goals.

Cyprus believes that the European Union needs to develop a strategy to counter disinformation about 5G technology.

Conspiracy theories that the coronavirus may be related to wireless technology have led to the burning of mobile station masts and attacks on maintenance workers in recent months.

The 27 EU countries see 5G as the core of their economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and technological autonomy.
